Five For Friday: November Edition

Happy Friday TRT/OG friends! Welcome to all my new followers too! After last night’s Halloween fun, I really needed a nap today(didn’t happen)! Each year I host my family and serve a huge crock pot of chili and homemade cornbread for dinner. Then we all go trick or treating in our neighborhood. There’s always tons of kids, which makes it lots of fun. Here’s five things I’d love to share this week. I need your input, so please comment at the end if you have a minute. Thanks!
     1. Choose My Next Blog Topic!
I have 3 topic choices, all of which I’ll blog about at some point, but I’d like to ask you which one I should write about first.
Here they are:
TOPIC A. What’s In My OG bag? MANY of you wanted to know how I travel to tutor Orton Gillingham to students. and what my enormous bag contained when I posted a pic.
TOPIC B. The Dos and Don’ts of Close Reading. I see and read a lot of misconceptions about close reading and I’d love to share my insights. This is a hot topic for many too!
TOPIC C. Using a Story Matrix. Lots of you were able to download my Mystery unit as a freebie during last week’s Blog Hop. Inside my mystery freebie, there was a story matrix to use to compare and contrast several texts. Using a story matrix during a genre study has been one of my favorite graphic organizers.
Please comment below on which topic I should blog about first. The topic with the most votes will win! Thank you!
2. Veterans Day Writing

In the school I taught at, we always hosted a Veterans Day Ceremony. It was a beautifully solemn and heartfelt event. I created a product this week featuring one of the writing activities our students would complete. It comes in a handy little bi-fold booklet. Check it out at:
3. November Frenzy and Blog Hop

Yup! You heard right! It’s time for the November Facebook Frenzy next weekend! I’m creating a Thanksgiving themed freebie to use with a favorite book of mine for the third grade group. Just look for my frenzy tab next weekend on my Facebook page.
AANNNDDDD…The Super Sleuth Blog Hop ladies are at it again, only this time with a new theme: The Gift of Reading! I’ll be posting more info about dates soon. Stay tuned. This one is going to be even better!
4. New Pigeon Books!

A dear friend/neighbor of mine just gave my boys these! Not only are we huge Mo Willems’ fans in our house, the teacher in me says they are perfect for practicing reading with different tones and expression! The boys get to hold onto the board book, but Mom reads the others while they sit in their high chairs or at bedtime! :))
5. November/December Newsletter
and Freebies
This month I’ve decided to do a bi-monthly newsletter due to all the craziness the holidays bring in my house. Plus with another baby on the way in March, things are pretty busy around here! (Did you like how I just slipped that news in there? :)) I’m going to do a special focus on handwriting in this next issue. A friend and former work colleague is going to do a guest spot explaining the benefits of handwriting from an occupational therapist point of view. I’m so grateful to Jenny for her contribution. Look for my latest newsletter within the next two weeks.
Did you know I have a Fans Only Freebies tab on my Facebook page? Just click on it and you’ll be able to download my latest freebie: 3 and 4 sound phoneme cards. I also created a little Thankful freebie you can grab from my store. It’s my thank-you to all of you for your support. Just click on the pic below. If you have time, please leave me a rating/feedback. Thank you!
