Description
Give your students a quick and focused way to review the doubling rule (1–1–1 rule) with these low-prep, print-and-go exit tickets and practice sheet. This brief assessment resource is perfect for Orton-Gillingham and structured literacy classrooms that want to be sure students know when to double the final consonant before adding a vowel suffix, and when not to.
Use the practice sheet as a warm-up before the exit tickets or as additional review afterward. Then, monitor understanding day by day with numbered exit tickets for 5 days of quick assessment.
Each exit ticket gives students practice applying the doubling rule in context:
-
There are 3 tickets per page with the same sentence, ideal for use with multiple students.
-
Simply cut them apart and hand one to each student at the end of your lesson when you’re reviewing the doubling rule.
-
As time allows, ask students to explain why they doubled the consonant or not to deepen their understanding of this important spelling generalization.
To help you easily track growth, a progress chart is included. There is space for 6 student names (perfect for small groups). Print additional copies as needed for larger groups or multiple intervention groups.
