Mentor Monday 11/17/14 Thanksgiving Books And A Giveaway!

Sunday, November 16, 2014

Happy Mentor Monday everyone! We're getting closer to Thanksgiving break. Who's excited? Don't you just love Thanksgiving? No pressure for gift giving, decorating, wrapping, comfy clothes are acceptable and it's frowned upon if you don't fill up your plate. LOL!  I have so much to be thankful for this year. My own little butterball arrived last March, so this is her first Thanksgiving. My little family and I have been healthy (thank God), and we have an incredible amount of support from loved ones. I really can't ask for much more than that.

My blessings continued this when I hit my first TpT milestone about two weeks ago. My journey began with rookie mistakes, but a whole lot of determination. Through the support of an incredible group of sellers, I have been able to accomplish great things. Creating not only for fellow OG instructors, but for classroom teachers all over the world is a dream come true. I truly wish to thank all of you for supporting me and my store. It isn't always easy with three little ones under the age of three, but each day is a new adventure. I'm excited to see what this next year holds for me and my little store. I have several ideas in the works, so stay tuned!

For this week's topic, I've made a collage of some great books for Thanksgiving to share with your students. This was a tough one to create, because I couldn't fit them all into one collage!
It think there are 3 important things to remember when selecting books about Thanksgiving:

1. There are two sides to the Thanksgiving story. Find books that share multiple perspectives.
2. Check for historical accuracy versus historical fiction.
3. Take the time to include modern day books to compare and contrast.

Do you have any you'd add to this list? I'd love to add to my own collection,
so please comment below.

Even better...
How would you like to win a $25 gift certificate? I'm giving one away this week as a way to celebrate my milestone. Just enter the Rafflecopter below.  I'll choose a winner by Friday, November, 21, 2014.

  2. So true, there are two sides to the story. I love teaching about the Thanksgiving Proclamation made by George Washington and later by Abraham Lincoln. It makes for a great discussion.
