Welcome to the Gift of Reading Blog Hop!

Books and reading play such an integral role in my home. They are the cure all! They help with naps, bedtimes, tantrums, rainy days, extra snuggle time, and let’s not forget all the amazing language and vocabulary development!  I’ve been thinking of several books to give as a gifts this year.

Here’s my  list so far:
  • The Original Thomas The Tank Engine by Rev Awdry
  • ANY Pete The Cat books
  • Shel Silverstein poetry
  • Books about trucks and transportation
  • Books about families
  • The NEW Gerald and Piggy Book!
  • A new Christmas book to add to our collection
If you have any suggestions for books for 2 year old boys, please add them in the comments!

I’ve been using cootie catchers with my early readers lately and LOVING them. Who knew this fun little childhood game could be turned into a learning experience? I made a set for every letter of the alphabet a few months ago. Now, they did NOT want to put them down! The unintentional bonus is they receive lots of extra fine motor practice. It was a win/win!

Since they enjoyed using them so much, I decided to make one for writing stories. I knew this would help some of my struggling writers who need a little extra motivation. Using a cootie catcher for story ideas would warm up their hand muscles before attempting to write a story! If you know me, I’m always looking for ways to get more bang for my buck with an activity. BUT, it had to be simple and efficient. The story cootie has made its debut!
