Harvest Of Reading Freebies Blog Hop

Share:

Welcome to the Harvest of  Freebies Blog hop! I absolutely love Fall. The smells, the foliage, the colors, and holidays make living in New England a very special place. We New Englanders are pretty traditional folk, and I’m no exception. Sharing traditions is what brings family together. I sharing some wonderful seasonal resources with you today. One of them is a traditional song my Mom taught to me and my siblings as a little girl.

1. One of the ways I like to appeal to struggling readers is to engage them with short non-fiction passages that will pique their interest. My Non-Fiction task cards do just that. Each month, creating a set of task cards and accompanying activities for interactive notebooks and writing all based on a seasonal theme. This month is all about pumpkins. In the collage below, you can see the order in how I present it to students. I’ve included a non-fiction article with the task cards to build background. It works well for guided reading or closed reading lessons, too. The task cards can be in a read around the room format. You can display them in various locations of your classrooms, or all at one literacy center.

This set, as well as all of my task cards will be on sale this weekend. If you’d like to see a sample page of this set, please click here.

2. My next collage shares photos of the song book, Jack O’ Lantern. I come from a very musical family. We grew up singing, dancing and playing instruments. I can remember learning the words to the Halloween song, Jack O’ Lantern, around age three. My older sister got a silly idea of adding in “BOOLIE!” when the song was all over, so of course we HAVE to say boolie, even to this day. Now I have my two older ones singing it with me and they love it! Seeing it in a book format really makes this song tradition come alive.

You can download a free copy of this book in my store. I’m also giving away a laminated copy that will be bound with a metal ring. Enter the Rafflecopter below for a chance to win it.

Thank you for visiting my blog today! I enjoy the rest of the stops along the way. Be sure to follow my blog on Bloglovin. You won’t miss a Mentor Monday or Friday Foundations, my weekly posts, if you do! 🙂

  1. I love BIG PUMPKIN! My students love recalling the order of the Halloween characters that come along to help the witch pull her pumpkin off the vine and I love the patterned text and colorful illustrations! Thanks for the great freebie!
