The Creative Teacher Giveaway! 1 for Me & 1 for You

Share:

Greetings everyone! I’m Emily, The Reading Tutor/OG. I was a classroom teacher for many years before having my three children. I am now a WAHM (work at home Mom). My boys are nearly 2 and my daughter is 3 months old. I work with children in a 1:1 setting with dyslexia and writing challenges. Having 3 little ones under two since March surely keeps me on my toes. People wonder how I juggle work and time with my children. It isn’t easy! Thankfully, I have lots of help. When you have twins, you learn to enlist as much help as you can.

My boys love being read to every day, any time of the day. Reading is the cure all in our family. My husband and I are both teachers, so books are front and center in our children’s lives. The boys have recently started showing a great deal of interest in using their magnetic letters, asking what the letters are, singing the alphabet, and telling us when they see certain letters. They shout, “M FOR MOMMY!” or when they see an O or a T. It’s so exciting to watch their learning and language just burst before your eyes.

My children are home with me and do not attend daycare or preschool. I try to find engaging activities for them to try out and experiment with each day. Sometimes I’ll fill the water table with a whole basket full of seashells for science exploration. Or I’ll set up a slide and tunnel in our family room as a mini obstacle course for some gross motor play on a rainy day, or a time when my youngest is napping and we can’t get outside.

I am a clipart fanatic these days. Most of the products I create in my store are for grades 1-4. Recently, I’ve been thinking about making things for toddlers and preschoolers with all of this wonderful clipart. The stick and play set popped into my head. Children LOVE Velcro play. My own kids love the book Chicka Chicka Boom Boom. I went searching on Pinterest to search for some pins to my early literacy board. There are a TON of ways to enjoy this story in a hands on way. Here’s a link my search. I decided to combine the two into an early literacy craftivity!

Take a look at the collage below to see how I created this craftivity. (I had a good time with my laminator as you can see!) You’ll have a chance to win this set already created for you. I will ship it to you with all the materials prepared, including a free copy of Chicka Chicka Boom Boom. All you need to do is set it up in your home or classroom!

Ways You Can Use This Set:
  • Practice letter recognition for lower and upper case letters
  • Play along with the book
  • Fine motor practice
  • It’s a listening center too! Just scan the QR code with a QR reader on any mobile device and it takes to Safeshare, a site that safely plays Youtube videos without ads. Your child or students will be able to watch and listen as they follow along with Chicka Chicka Boom Boom.

I hang my set on a closet door in my family room with Velcro at toddler height, but you can place it at literacy center table if you’d like. If you win this set, I will mail you extra Velcro to stick on the back if you want to hang it up.

If you’d like to win this book and play set, just enter the Rafflecopter at the end of this post. You have until July 3rd to enter. I’ll choose one winner, announce it on my Facebook page and email you with details.

  2. I love this and it gives me so many more ideas! I would let my toddler explore with it for the summer and during the school year I could use it during circle time to practice letters. I could also use it when reading the book, as an independent center, as a work task activity, etc.

  3. I tutor a student with intellectual disabilities. I use gaming and hands on techniques with her. She would love this activity. I send home my hands on activities and her family uses them too.
